EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
COUNSELOR - Master's Degree and SBEC
Professional Counselor Certificate or be eligible for an
emergency permit. To be eligible for Professional Counselor permit,
applicant must have (1) A valid Texas teacher certificate at the level of
assignment, (2) 24 semester hours of graduate level credit, including 12
semester hours in Guidance and Counseling; and (3) Three years of classroom
teaching experience. Windham experience preferred.

TEACHER – Texas teacher certification
in elementary education, secondary English, History, Science, Math, etc. ***OR*** have a vocational certification and
Windham teaching experience.
PARTIAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COUNSELOR - Assists in the placement of
students in an educational environment most conducive to their educational
needs. Maintains appropriate number of students per class by identifying
and placing students in appropriate programs. Maintains status as General
Educational Diploma (GED) examiner at all levels: Windham School District
(WSD), Texas Education Agency (TEA), General Education Diploma Testing Service
(GEDTS). Coordinates unit-testing program for GED, E.A. and Vocational
Assessment. Coordinates all counseling activities with the Unit
Principal. Provides small groups, large groups, as well as classroom
Guidance and Counseling on Unit. Assists CTE teachers with skills tests
and final exams.
TEACHER – Plans and directs learning
activities of adult offender students. Serves on curriculum, textbooks and
other committees as assigned. Maintains lesson plans in accordance with the
criteria established by WSD policy. Maintains accurate attendance records in
the manner prescribed by WSD. Submits reports and required by program needs and
administrative requests. Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and
responsible manner as defined in the SBEC Code of Ethics and Standard Practices
and Texas Educators.
