EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited high school or hold a GED and six years of full-time, wage-earning experience in computer programming,

OR

Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the council for higher education accreditation (CHEA) to include eighteen semester hours in Computer Science or Management Information Systems and five years of full-time, wage-earning experience in computer programming,

OR

Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the council for higher education accreditation (CHEA) to include nine semester hours in Computer Science or Management Information Systems and four years of full-time, wage-earning experience in computer programming.

 

PARTIAL SUMMARY OF THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Analyzes education department needs as outlined by the Windham School District administration regarding detailed data processing equipment requirements and capabilities.  Assists in analyzing proposed automated data processes in terms of resources and cost justification.  Documents existing and proposed computer applications.  Develops automated systems.  Codes, prepares test data, tests, debugs programs and maintains complex applications.  Monitors and assists in the evaluation, maintenance and applications development.  Documents procedures used in the development and revision of computer programs.  Analyzes, reviews , and revises programs to increase operating efficiency.  Monitors computer system performance to achieve maximum utilization of system software and hardware.  Researches and reviews trade journals and information sources for current developments in computer software and equipment.  Assists in the training of other Computer Services’ employees as assigned by the supervisor.  Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the SBEC code of ethics and standard practices for Texas educators.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of programming in a client server environment.  Knowledge of personal computer and network hardware, operating systems, software, and peripherals.  Knowledge of relational databases structures.  Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.  Skill to write, test, debug, and maintain computer programs.  Skill in technical writing and preparing technical reports and documentation.  Skill to develop custom applications for use in a stand-alone or network environment.  Skill to develop, implement, and evaluate standards and procedures.  Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
